2026 SUMMER DRAFT League Volleyball (Grass)

THIS LEAGUE IS ON WEDNESDAYS AND DRAFT FORMAT.
Draft Night:
Draft Night on Wednesday, May 13th at 6:00PM is mandatory for players. Attendance is essential for the draft process, and players who do not attend are likely to be moved to a lower division per the waterfall draft format.
Please email League Director Matt Roby at matt@cgva.org if you cannot attend, so we can organize draft night effectively.
Draft Divisions and the Waterfall Draft Format:
CGVA draft leagues have 3 divisions: A, B, & C. Divisions may change each season to fit 3 competitive divisions for all registered players.
See our PYOT division descriptions: typically, A=Red/Orange, B=Orange/Yellow, and C=Yellow/Green (or playing in a competitive league for the first time). This A/B/C is not aligned with standard volleyball ratings or ratings from other organizations (even NAGVA).
Waterfall draft means you are not guaranteed a spot in the division you register for. On draft night, captains draft players until their teams are full, then any undrafted players move to the next lower division. Any players not drafted in A or B are guaranteed a spot in C division.
You may try out for a higher division if you feel ready, keeping in mind that you may not be selected. You should not register for a higher division if you cannot attend draft night. Players who try out for a higher division are not eligible to be captains.
You must opt-out of the waterfall draft process in your registration to be eligible for a refund after draft night.
Opting-in is recommended. Opting in guarantees you a spot, and you will play in whichever division you are selected for. Once draft night has finished, you will not be eligible for a refund. Registering for the C division is considered "opt-in" and guarantees you a spot on a C division team.
Opting-out will forfeit your spot in the league if you are not drafted in the division you registered for. Players who forfeit their spot and have opted out will be issued a refund.
If you would like to change your opt-out decision after registration, please update your registration at cgva.leagueapps.com/dashboard or email matt@cgva.org prior to draft night.

End-of-Season Tournament: August 26th & Sept 2nd
League Length:
14 weeks of play over 16 weeks
1 week of Draft Night
12 weeks of Pool play
2 weeks of Tournament Play
+2 weeks of weather makeup days (or bye weeks) within pool play schedule
Cost:
$105 per person*
*2026 Grass season cost has been adjusted from past years to reflect the increase from 8 to 14 weeks
Roster Format:
4x4 any gender combo.
Match Times:
Set up: 5:30pm (early session teams put up nets.)
Session 1: 6-7pm
Session 2*: 7-8pm
Tear Down: 8pm (late session teams take down nets.)
Forfeits are 15 minutes after start time.
*Session 2 will only be used if needed, based on the number of teams
Play Format:
1 Match, 3 games played to 21, win by 2, up to 23 points.
Draft Captains:
You may volunteer to be a team captain in your registration form, and captains will be selected from the volunteers on draft night. Registration closes shortly before draft night, and the # of teams cannot be determined until registration is closed and reviewed. Team captains will be required to observe draft night and pick their teams in a draft format.
