CGVA strives to make the best decisions possible regarding weather delays and cancellations; balancing player safety (first and foremost), respect for our facilities and players, maximizing play time and enjoyment, and the unpredictability of Colorado weather.

We will always attempt to make the best decision possible. This will sometimes result in decisions that are not ideal given the actual circumstances at game time.

Colorado often has small bursts of light rain that clear up quickly, so it is likely that we will play at least some games each season under wet conditions. Please play safely and adjust for the conditions if needed. This may include using higher traction shoes, playing off-speed, and generally leaving a bit more cushion for error.

Cancelling games proactively

In some cases we will be able to tell ahead of time that we should cancel games due to weather conditions. In these cases, CGVA League Directors will decide whether to proactively cancel games by 4 PM on the day of the games. If games are cancelled, rostered players will receive an email by 4 PM. If there is no email, then we plan to play.

Cancelling or postponing games reactively

If the weather turns significantly worse after we have decided not to cancel games, we may still cancel games due to safety concerns. Specifically, if lightning is seen within 6-10 miles, CGVA board members present will make a decision on whether to cancel or postpone gameplay.

CGVA may have a different threshold for these decisions than individual teams. If teams are not comfortable playing games, captains can work together to decide whether to record an in-progress game score as final, record games as ties, or record a forfeit one way or another.

Facility rules

Any facility rules or guidelines regarding use during inclement weather will supersede these CGVA rules only to be more restrictive than this policy.

Rescheduling

Due to limited field availability and limited daylight, it is not always possible to reschedule games missed due to weather. Whenever possible, CGVA will attempt to schedule make-up games, but this is not guaranteed.
